So when they push these throw does that mean thier could be part of the club. I see it looks like the 4.4L will be the baseline diesel in the newer SD's
Heres a link http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/news/ford/44diesel/first-spy-shots-underhood-of-f-150-4-4-diesel.html

It says Powerstroke on it, so why not?
I wonder if they have any plans to put it in a car. 4.4L is pretty small, so it might fit into a mid-sized sedan.
Probably not, I'm just hoping for something that I could replace my POS Jetta TDI with.

that would be interesting if they kept the "Power Stroke" name on the engines..This 4.4l is the "Lion" engine we've been hearing about and the 6.7 will be the "Scorpion"...
This brings up the question about who to let join the club in the future..International/Navi versions of the newest 6.4l motors are called "MaxxForce"(notice single turbo)... Ford puts the "Power Stroke" name on them after they are tweaked to their specs...Like Ben said, if it says "Power Stroke" then I guess that's what matters...Time will tell...Looks cool so far...

I hope they find a way to do the emmissions with out urea injection. From what i understand this engine will have to be as clean as the 2010 gas engines in the light duty class.
Looks like it might have twin turbos.

i think even now all engines must meet the same emission requirements, regardless of fuel type..Danny knows a bit about all that tier/bin stuff...
that display you posted mentions a light/chime to warn the owner that urea is needed...Danny also has a friend that is a MBZ shop foreman..i talked to him at the lake outing and he was under the impression that the EPA wanted the vehicle to either severely "limp" or completely stop if it was out of urea...the new emission systems will be much more complicated than EGR/CAT/DPF..still, looking at 390/750 for the Scorpion is !!

I hear ya William, i know all to much in regards to the tier system as it relates to our heavy equpiment industry. I have been lookin at it for some time as how it will affect my underground company. CA already has a program phasing out older diesel engine's or gettin them compliant. The cost is crazy and it will put alot of smaller companys out of business. Its just a matter of time before we adopte CA's emmission plan and have to start geting compliant with the older diesel engines. Most equpiment you by now already meets tier 3 emmissions with even a few meeting the most current tier 4, but the costs are insane. If they can beat the compliant dates they actual get crediet's for early compliance similar to what has happen with the cummins 6.7 blue tech engines that are 2010 compliant now.

| Im excited to see what is going to happen with the 6spd transmissions comin out. There is talk that both the 4.4 and the 6.7 will have 6spd transmissions. If so that will be impressive and should help with the fuel ecomony the emissions systems are eating up.

All I can say is thank goodness that the government is here to protect us & tell us how to live our lives. What would we do without them?
I'm assuming that 4.4 is a CR motor, but the thing above the flywheel looks like an HPOP res. Please tell me it doesn't use HEUI injectors (or MEUI - or whatever Cats new injectors are).

Oh boy, Here we go again huh Ben?,, I think I'm just gonna sell anything motorized that I own and go back to the dark ages where everything was human powered. Or maybe I'll just join a monastery instead,,,

Once you pull away from it everything will feel normal again.
Totally OT. Is it just my PCs (both home & work) where the layout of this thread is hokey? It's too wide (left to right). Even the quote/reply screen.

not that small, they're still a fairly decent size , or the 4.4 might be a V6 i can't remember now, but pretty sure it's a V8 similar to the new baby duramax 4.5L which is about the size of a smallblock chevy 350, so it's still about on par with the size of motor you would see in a 1/2ton pickup.
the LION diesels by ford are already in the works and running in europe and those are the ones that are slated for use in passenger cars and other vehicles besides trucks. you might see the 4.4L in the tahoe or suburban but i doubt in a camaro or something like that.

they are most definitely common rail, they cannot pass smog and meet EPA guidelines with the HEUI which is one reason ford HAD to switch to common rail.
i wanna know what that exhaust crossover piping is behind the motor linking the two exhaust manifolds/turbine housings ??
and then the driver side one has what appears to be an EGR feed going up into the top of the block toward what i'm assuming is another disaster known as EGR cooler/valve etc ? ? ?
